“The way of Aeneas. Artists of the Present Alone with the Past ” is an exhibition about contemporary art in its relations with the past. According to legend, when the ancient hero Aeneas left the burning Troy, he took on his father's back and went with him on a journey. Through this image, the project's curators look at contemporary art: how and why do artists today turn to the past? How do historical events, the art of previous generations, and the personal experiences that have been experienced affect the images of today? Do the artists carry their “parents” on their backs, or do they move forward on their own?

Since the end of the 19th century, an artist's protest against "parents" has been an important gesture for the artist who sought to respond to the challenges of the present day. Today, such a refusal is optional. On the contrary, artists are constantly reviewing their own past. To explore how the artists find themselves "one-on-one", the curators gathered in one space the work of thirteen authors from three generations from Ukraine, Italy, Germany and Albania.

For the first time, the Aeneas Way exhibition was created by the Italian organization Casa Testori for the 2017 Rimini Meeting. On the initiative of the Dante Centerfor European Culture and Publicorganization "Emmaus" project of the same name was re-assembled with the participation of Ukrainian artists in a completely different context and implemented within the framework of the annual Dantefest socio-cultural festival.

The project was implemented with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Fund
