Alexander Dubovik. The Signs
10.15-12.15
On October 15, at 18:00, the exhibition project "Alexander Dubovik. The Signs".
Stedley Art Foundation presents an exhibition of the work of Alexander Dubovik, a Ukrainian artist of the sixties, a representative of the neo-avant-garde generation.
The project will present different areas of the artist's work: from the first iconic paintings "Bouquets" created in the 1960s, to a series of gouaches, to unique art books in which the artist embodied his most daring ideas. The exhibition will also recreate the atmosphere of the New Apostolic Church in Kiev, for which the artist created a stained glass design project.
Alexander Dubovik is an important figure in the history of Ukrainian art. He created a corpus of paintings and graphic works that are now kept in world museum collections, and he also outlined his views on art in texts, philosophical treatises, and poetry.
Dubovik's work is complex and multifaceted, each sign he creates has its own history and character. The pictorial language in which the artist speaks to us has its roots in the traditions of iconography, Suprematism and Symbolism. Dubovik works with the concept of metamorphosis and palimpsest - the layering of many realities and meanings. For him, Matisse's idea that an artist's importance is determined by the number of new signs he introduces into the arsenal of visual language becomes important. Thus Dubovik creates his own sign systems and works with concepts that are not yet familiar to us, but that he has long understood and embodied in numerous paintings.
The project was realized with the support of Stedley Art Foundation and A-club Private Banking of Alfa-Bank Ukraine.
The exhibition will be open until November 26.
Entrance is free.
