Kharkiv School of Photography, which is one of the brightest phenomena of Ukrainian art, was created in 1970s and developing historically over several generations. Being enthusiastic about the idea of ​​expanding the field of photography, the authors still rethink traditional approaches to photography through dialogue with other mediums and close insight into the realities of private and public life.

"Artist in the Game" is a large-scale exhibition project which introduces the viewer to the history of the Kharkiv School of Photography as a community history, where the photographer, renouncing the role of an outside, uninvolved observer, is one of the main objects around which photographic practices develop. The exhibition will include individual works and series, the heroes of which are the authors and their immediate environment, documentation of performances and actions covering the period from the 1960s to 2010s.

The exhibition project is the result of research work of the team of the Museum of the Kharkiv School of Photography (MOKSOP). It is an institution founded in 2018, whose activities are aimed at preserving, studying and promoting modern Ukrainian photography.
